The Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series was developed by Adel B. Korkor, M.D. as a way to address the epidemic of mental health problems. His idea of running a 5k race in all 50 states in 50 days is a way to create a movement that will spread from one coast to the other, one state at a time.
The movement will kick off on May 5, 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii and finish in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 23. For a full list of the cities and dates with information on each event, click here. If you are interested in being part of our tour, click here.
The mission of the Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series is to make the world a better place for those suffering from mental illness. The funds raised from this will be used by the Adel B. Korkor, M.D. Foundation to increase awareness, address the shortage of affordable care, emphasize the importance of wellness in mental health, fund research, and focus on underserved groups such as veterans, minorities and those suffering from addiction.
To run, has been a vital tool to improve and maintain my own mental health and well-being.....in essence, it has saved my life.
I have chosen to run in all 50 states to bring awareness to the wide scope of need for mental health all across our nation. I will achieve this in a mere 50 days, for we can not waste any more time in our effort to make a difference.
It is time to bring mental health to where it truly belongs, that is to the forefront of our healthcare and not as an extension, nor as an auxiliary component that we push aside when resources are limited.
It is time to move,
For there is no time to waste.
Let us work together.
Let there be a new life,
For all who suffer in silence.
Let these unheard voices be heard.
Let there be no stigma,
Let us all participate.
Join in the movement.
Run with me,
Walk with me.
Together, we will all make a difference.
